Instagram Stories can mean big business. One in every three of the most viewed stories comes from a brand—and those winning with the ephemeral 15-second clips know that good storytelling starts with a storyboard. With a storyboard, you can map out your message and make shooting it easier—even on the go. Plus, you won't forget to include all your Story's key details, like hashtags and logos. Read on for our step-by-step guide and create your first Instagram Stories storyboard today. 1. Start with a concept Before putting pen to paper, decide on a concept for your Instagram Story—ideally one closely tied to a social marketing objective. For example, Sephora's Foundation Poll accomplishes two social marketing objectives: obtaining feedback from its customers, and boosting sales of the featured products. 2. Pick your theme and style Great Stories look cohesive. Start by choosing templates, fonts, and colors so you can apply them to your storyboard. For example, Bon Appétit uses a consistent template for its Highly Recommend series. This makes it easy for viewers to follow and understand how to engage. Each frame, whether it's an image, poll, or video, should illustrate the scene. Number each frame and add a brief description. Keep in mind that Instagram Stories weren't made for epic narratives; completion rates are highest for 10 frames or less. 4. Add the extras A well thought-out storyboard reduces the chance you'll overlook the important social details. Just be sure to mention any logos, hashtags, geotags, or stickers used.
